Job Summary:

The Elite Job is seeking an experienced Senior Life & Disability Underwriter to join our fully remote team. In this role, you will leverage your underwriting expertise to assess and evaluate life and disability insurance applications, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines. You will play a critical role in risk assessment, policy pricing, and decision-making while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver accurate and timely underwriting solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough evaluation of life and disability insurance applications, including medical records, financial documents, and risk factors.

  • Determine appropriate coverage, premiums, and policy terms based on risk assessment.

  • Collaborate with internal teams including sales, claims, and risk management to ensure smooth policy issuance and compliance.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry trends, and company underwriting guidelines.

  • Review complex cases, making judgment calls on high-risk or non-standard applications.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters, assisting in their professional development.

  • Ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting of underwriting decisions in internal systems.

  • Participate in audits, quality assurance checks, and process improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Business, Actuarial Science, or related field (advanced degrees preferred).

  • Proven experience in life and disability insurance underwriting, ideally with 5+ years in a senior role.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with keen attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, financial statements, and insurance risk assessment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex cases simultaneously.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience in life and disability insurance.

  • Prior experience in handling high-volume or complex cases is highly desirable.

  • Experience in mentoring or supervising junior underwriters is a plus.

Working Hours:

  • Full-time remote position.

  • Standard business hours with flexibility depending on team and project requirements.

  • Occasional extended hours may be required to meet deadlines.
